Harley Chatman, originally from Colorado, has spent most of her life in New Mexico, where she has cultivated a deep passion for volleyball. She has played for notable teams such as Rio West and Team Tribe under the guidance of esteemed coaches Minh Tran, and Cong Tran. Her playing experience has laid a solid foundation for her coaching career, which has seen her lead teams at Cactus Volleyball Club for the 14’s and 15’s age groups. Harley has also served as the JV coach for Highland High School and is currently the JV Head Coach at Eldorado High School. She is thrilled to begin coaching the 15 SW team at ARVC.

Harley’s journey into coaching was inspired by the impactful coaches she encountered during her youth. These mentors helped shape her identity and aspirations, motivating her to become a coach who makes a significant difference in the lives of young athletes. Harley is dedicated to influencing her players not just on the court but, more importantly, off the court. She believes in creating a supportive environment where athletes feel they have a community within their coaches to rely on for help and guidance.

Outside of coaching, Harley works for an Audio Visual Integration company. She is also a full-time mom and is working towards resuming her studies to earn a nursing degree, a goal she had to pause during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Harley’s coaching philosophy focuses on providing purposeful experiences that help athletes develop their skills and values through volleyball. She aims to offer opportunities for physical, social, and mental improvement, encouraging her players to become productive members of society. Her philosophy emphasizes the long-term development of athletes in their technique, tactics, mental approach, and the satisfaction of learning or enhancing skills both on and off the court. Harley’s favorite quote, by Thomas Edison, reflects her approach to coaching and life: “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

Harley Chatman’s dedication to her athletes’ holistic development and her passion for the sport make her an exceptional coach, inspiring young players to strive for excellence and resilience in all aspects of their lives.
