12 Black Adidas Assistant Coach
bio
Introducing Coach Joaquin! He was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Coach Joaquin graduated from Volcano Vista High School and didn’t discovered his love for volleyball until later in life. He comes from a long line of volleyball lovers – his parents coached, and his sister played – and initially wasn’t involved. However, after giving the game a chance, Joaquin fell in love with our sport and is continuing his family’s tradition. He started playing 3 years ago and hasn’t stopped since.
Coach Joaquin began his coaching career in the 2023/2024 season as an assistant for the DCVA 12N1 team. He went on to the JV team at Legacy Academy and we’re ecstatic to him coaching with ARVC. His motivation to coach stems from his own experiences as a youth athlete, where he felt unmotivated by coaches who lacked inspiration. He’s determined to ensure that no athlete feels the same way, Joaquin is committed to helping create a positive, hard-working environment for his players.
In addition to coaching, Joaquin is pursuing a degree in psychology at CNM, with aspirations of becoming a sports psychologist. His coaching philosophy is centered on the belief that hard work always beats talent, and he lives by the mantra: “Never focus on the win. Winning is a byproduct of doing your best.”
When he’s not coaching or studying, Coach Joaquin enjoys playing sand volleyball, hanging out with friends, and gaming. Despite only playing for three years, he has already competed and won local sand volleyball tournaments, proving that dedication and hard work can lead to success at any level. We proudly welcome Joaquin and can’t wait for the positive impact he’s certain to have on our young Rebels!
