He attended Albuquerque High and is currently pursuing pre-health and science studies at CNM, aiming for a career as a Dental Hygienist. With over 10 years of playing experience, Luis specializes in defense as a libero and has a comprehensive understanding of the game.
Luis has translated his playing experience into a successful coaching career. He has coached for NM Cactus, working with athletes aged 13-16, and served as the head coach for Highland High School’s C-team for the 2023-2024 season. Recently, he has taken on the role of Program Assistant at Eldorado High School and is thrilled to begin a new chapter in his coaching journey at ARVC.
Inspired by the positive role models from his childhood, Luis started coaching to share his love and passion for volleyball while imparting valuable life lessons to young athletes. His coaching philosophy emphasizes training and improving the most challenging aspects of the game and developing mental toughness. Luis believes that while the body can endure anything, it is the mind that needs convincing. He maintains a high level of focus and engagement with his athletes to ensure they retain their love for the game and the desire to improve continually.
Beyond coaching, Luis is a Project Manager for AVI-SPL, an Audio-Visual company. Balancing his professional career, college studies, and coaching responsibilities, he exemplifies dedication and perseverance.
Luis’s favorite quote, “Remember that wherever your heart is. There you will find your treasure,” by Paulo Coelho, reflects his commitment to following his passions and inspiring his athletes to do the same. His focus on mental toughness, engagement, and love for the game makes him an exceptional coach, fostering growth and excellence in his players both on and off the court.
