Mia Maestas
14U Academy Coach
bio
Coach Mia was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she is currently a senior at La Cueva High School, set to graduate in May 2025. She plans to attend the University of New Mexico and study neuroscience.
Her volleyball journey began six years ago as a DS/Lib. She played for ARVC for four years, competing on both regional and national teams, and she played for her high school team during her freshman year. In January 2023, Coach Mia took her first step into coaching with ARVC as a 13U Academy Coach. While coaching was never initially something she envisioned for herself, she quickly realized how fulfilling it could be, both as a personal growth experience and as an opportunity to lead young athletes.
Through her coaching journey, Mia has discovered the power of leadership, growth, and mentorship. She believes in fostering a growth mindset, encouraging athletes to embrace challenges as opportunities to improve and build resilience. Her coaching philosophy is deeply inspired by belief that experience and failure are pivotal to a person’s growth. This mindset shapes her approach to coaching, helping athletes not only grow on the court but also as individuals.
In addition to coaching, Coach Mia enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and spending quality time with her friends and family. She’s excited to continue her coaching journey and looks forward to working with young athletes, instilling a love for the game, and helping them achieve their potential.
We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again, ARVC is incredibly honored to welcome another Alumni to our staff!
Coach Mia’s Favorite Quote – “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” – Maya Angelou
